  • The great sacrifices of the past will never be forgotten. We acknowledge the courage of the Australian men and women of today who volunteer to serve. The RSL is committed to supporting veterans, currently serving ADF personnel and their families.

  • Remembrance Day means a lot to me personally as one who has served in two conflicts with memories of soldiers who were killed and wounded in my unit and, as the leader of the RSL in Queensland, responsible for the delivery of support for many thousands of veterans. We, the RSL, are also responsible to ensure that past sacrifices are not forgotten. Remembrance Day is the one day when we recognise all sacrifices and suffering not just specific wars and battles.

President Doug Formby (RSL Queensland)02/11/2009 10:21pm (10 months ago)

  • This is to my relations that have fought in various wars since Boar War, to those that were lucky and came home and to those that did not. Those that are buried overseas and to the groups who look after these graves. Those that stayed in Australia and helped with the war efforts, cause of some problem. They were able to let able body people go and fight. Because of these people we are free to call Australia home and free to be ourselves. I will never forget, to forget is to have waste their lives.

  • How many of us know very much about the men who fought in World War 1? My Grandfather and Father in law were in Egypt and Gallipoli and there were family members in France - we didn't know them, but our parents did. They remembered them, their children and our children remember them. We remember the men and women who have served our countries in more wars than should have been. We will never forget them! Let us not forget those who are still in war zones to this day - may they come home safely to their families and friends.

  • As our population has grown so much since that memorable day in November 1918 the statement of Winston Churchill becomes even more appropriate.
"Never before have so many owed so much to so few"

  • I want to thank all soldiers past and present for your dedication, loyalty and sheer willingness to fight for our freedom. I am awed at the courage you have to stand face to face with death and devistation and bear witness to things that i can't even imagine. If it weren't for you all, we would not be living how we are. I will be eternaly grateful. LEST WE FORGET!

  • What these men did nothing can alter now. The good and the bad, the greatness and smallness of their story will stand. Whatever of glory it contains nothing can lessen. It rises, as it will always rise, above the mists of ages, a monument to great-hearted men; and, for their nation, a possession for ever.
(CEW Bean, from the Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-18)

  • Thank you to the men and women who sacrificed so much. Recognition to the families too who loved them from afar and had to watch them go not knowing if they would return -- just as families in Australia are still doing today. Stay strong.
