Sons and daughters of this land,
You fill my heart with pride,
On water, in trenches, jungle and sand,
You've fought bravely side by side,
You're heroes, every one of you,
You lived and died to keep us free,
But because you overpaid your dues,
The Aussie spirit is guaranteed.

We remember Grandfather Claude, who served on the Western Front, and to Great Uncle Monty who perished on the beaches of Gallipoli on 25th April 1915. To Dale Herron and his brothers, who all fought in WW2, and returned. To visit the Western Front, and to walk in the footsteps of those who had fought 90 years ago, was an emotional experience.
To participate in the 90th Anniversary of the end of WW1 at Yepers in Belgium was something to remember always.
A special thought also for our son Greg who is in Iraq, not as a soldier but as a trainer.

A fine tribute we can pay,
Unto our heroes and fore-fathers who have passed this way.
Not only of speeches or poppies red,
As on the high seas and battle fields they had bled.
They gave us our lives and throbbing hearts instead.
Our country, Our flag and our freedom shall bear no stain
And we will not wear No tyrant's chain.
Their Blessing to all of us ~
With boughed heads - We give a silent moment to remember,
Renew the pledge they sealed on the 11th November 1917.
Today - we honour, our grandfathers who went to WW1 and our fathers, Dale Herron Aust. and Hank DeGraw USA. who survived WW2.
lest we forget.

Did anyone get a tape of A Current Affair in Perth on November 05, 2009 (Thursday?) I missed it because I was working, and I've been told my mother was in the background pictures - it was a segment about Remembrance Day. Mum's friends Sue and Joy were talking. I would really love to get hold of a copy but it is not on ACA's video page. jlgonzales@upnaway.com

Freedom, grace and mercy are easily lost and hard won. With grandparents on both sides who loathed war, may we remember that men, women and children died because we let veiled evil lose; we didn't dare look too close lest we be forced to make a choice. Alas we were forced anyway and lost fathers, sons, brothers and more. May God forgive us.
